With the success of the Weird New Jersey website, promotional efforts began as part of the overall effort to increase the audience for InThe GardenState.com, Comcast Online's regional website at the time, where I was the primary online designer. WeirdNJ was always a unique, separate site, but, at the time, affiliated with InTheGardenState.com and its connection to Comcast's broadcast and cable resources and assets. My idea of a music video came to fruition when Weird New Jersey's editors produced "The Sounds Of Weirdness", a compilation of songs by local bands and musicians about the topics and stories found in Weird New Jersey magazine. The first song, "Anarchy In Midgetville", by the band Headwound, was perfect for my idea of a visual expression of several of the more well-known stories and sites covered by the magazine. The result was this music video.
The two Marks — Sceurman and Moran — founded Weird New Jersey in the early 1990s and have since risen to fame and fortune with their series on the History Channel, "Weird US" and their continued excavation of all things strange, esoteric, and not quite real in their home state and now around the country.
